For more than 55 years, Methodist Healthcare has delivered innovative and comprehensive heart, lung and vascular care to patients of all ages. As the largest provider of cardiovascular services in South Texas, the healthcare system maintains an award-winning reputation and has received several prestigious accreditations for clinical excellence.
The breadth of cardiovascular services offered throughout Methodist Healthcare range from performing milestone “first” procedures in Texas, to being the only system offering an array of comprehensive cardiovascular services comparable to nationally recognized leaders. This achievement is made possible by renowned specialists whose collective skill and expertise power the overarching comprehensive cardiovascular program: Methodist Heart.
To support the growing demand for advanced cardiovascular services in the second fastest-growing city in the U.S., Methodist Heart expands across six acute care facilities, as well as four freestanding emergency rooms, seven urgent care locations and 90 physicians who provide heart, lung and vascular care across South Texas. The cardiovascular teams throughout Methodist Heart are built on a foundation of invaluable and, sometimes, rare expertise in a variety of services not typically offered in other regions.
Methodist Heart is defined by our specialists’ collaborative approach to care and the access points we have built for our community. Our team has built a reputation for providing high quality and innovative cardiovascular care across an array of comprehensive services from prevention, testing and diagnosis to invasive treatment and complex surgery. Our numerous locations provide access to these services throughout South Texas.
The Methodist Heart Institute at Methodist Hospital stands as one of the area’s few accredited heart failure institutes and the region’s largest lifesaving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program. Methodist Healthcare is the only health system in San Antonio to perform heart transplants, nearly 500 to date, maintaining the system’s status as national leader in cardiovascular transplant excellence. The system’s most recent milestone is the opening of the Methodist Aortic Center — a specialty center designed to not only monitor and follow patients diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm as a preventive measure to emergency surgery, but also to care for patients who have suffered from an aneurysm rupture and require emergency surgery. The Methodist Heart Institute provides the most comprehensive cardiovascular specialties and services in San Antonio.
